Espejos Acústicos is a quadriphonic sound art installation and sculpture that explores the relationship between sound, acoustics, and space. The work continues a research project that began in 2021 with support from the Musikfonds STIP-III grant. The research begins by placing two loudspeakers at the maximum possible distance in corridors and delaying identical sound events between them. This setup allows me to investigate how these sounds interact with the natural reverberation and delay effects present in long spaces. These experiments lead to the creation of Espejos Acústicos, which is funded between 2023 and 2024 by the Chilean Ministry of Culture. The grant supports the production of four custom-built loudspeakers as well as the acquisition of audio interfaces and amplifiers.

The four loudspeakers are positioned in an 18-meter-long gallery space, each placed at least three meters apart. In this configuration, six compositions are presented over a duration of 30 minutes. The compositional methodology mirrors the conceptual approach of the research itself—repeating the same sound event across all four loudspeakers, beginning with loudspeaker No. 1 and continuing sequentially to No. 4. The unusual orientation of the speakers (with the cones facing upward), the distance between them, and the high sound fidelity create a sound installation in which one can “see the sound” moving from one end of the room to the other, like a “snake of sound.” This configuration invites the audience to experience sound as a dynamic entity and challenges the perception of space and movement within the gallery environment, encouraging visitors to move through the space and encounter the installation from different vantage points.
